Rock and roll stars sometimes get a bad rap about being party animals and not being the smartest tool in the shed. Meet Brian May, guitarist for the rock band Queen. Many people don’t know that he is also a rocket scientist! Well, not really, but he did obtain his PhD in Astrophysics which is pretty impressive.
He was attending college back in his good old rock and roll days, but when Queen became so successful, he temporarily put his studies on hold while living the life of a fulltime rock and roll icon. He returned to classes in 2007 and in 2008 obtained his PhD from Imperial College in London, England.
He is the co-author of the book ‘Bang – The Complete History of the Universe’ with fellow researchers Chris Lintott and Sir Patrick Moore.
- Asteroid 52665 Brianmay is named after Doctor May. Cool!
- He is the current Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.
- In 2005 he was honored as Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his charity work and accomplishments in the music industry.
